Manifesting our aspirations for STATSdraft

Updated: Jul 16

I’ve been to many conferences in my professional life, but none have left me nearly as inspired as the 2024 Women Leaders in Sports Institute for Advancement.

To attend this event, you had to apply and get accepted, and just 62 spots were open for admission. Needless to say, it was pretty incredible to get to represent STATSdraft alongside other women from a variety of sports-related organizations, including many of the biggest universities in the U.S., the NCAA, professional sports teams like the Chiefs, Pacers, and Royals, and more.

I met so some incredibly inspiring women, though I say “some” only because I just didn’t have the time to meet everyone, and I’m quite certain everyone there fits that description. Part of the reason the Institute for Advancement was developed is to help women in sports develop their leadership and careers, and to help women support other women since sports is such a male-dominated field. I walked away owning the fact that I am a female leader in sports, and it’s something I deserve to talk about.

This event was nearly three weeks ago, but I dropped by the Women Leaders in Sports offices yesterday to say hello and show male members of my team just how positive this organization is. It reminded me that I wanted to share some of my takeaways from the event to keep this fire going.

One of the things we talked about was that you must actively put your dreams out in the world so you can manifest them. You have to be seen. You have to ask for the things you want. And you have to constantly remind yourself, “I belong in this room.”

At the start of IA24, the team at Women Leaders in Sports asked us to write out our aspirations. At the end, we shared them out with the others in our cohort. My aspiration as a founder of STATSdraft is that we will continue to build a team and network that supports our organization’s vision, which is to show the unseen in sports.

So far, we’re doing that, and since IA24, I’ve more blatantly put myself in more rooms and spoken up more. And while I’ve heard a no or two, it’s also leading to some interesting traction, some of which I hope we can share in the coming days. It’s exciting to see where things are going, and most importantly, I do believe that owning my aspirations is what’s getting me there.

I’m proud to be a part of Women Leaders in Sports and I look forward to being able to give back in the future as STATSdraft continues to grow. In the meantime, stay tuned, because we have a lot of exciting things in the pipeline!

If you aren't yet playing, or haven't played in awhile, come see what's new. We have lots of soccer on the horizon, the WNBA, and big plans for the NCAA football season.
